School-Day Extended 45 Minutes on August 21 due to Solar Eclipse
Due to the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017, the Cobb County School District will delay dismissal of elementary, middle and high school students by 45 minutes. The peak time to experience the solar eclipse falls during our regularly scheduled elementary school dismissal time. Since student safety is always our first priority so we will delay dismissal to ensure that neither students nor employees are on the roadways during the time of the eclipse. Subsequently, high schools and middle schools will delay dismissal as well. Schools will be provided with further guidance and instructional resources as appropriate. Parents are welcome to pick-up their child at the typical dismissal time if needed. For more information regarding the solar eclipse visit the National Weather Service at http://www.weather.gov/sgf/SolarEclipse. Dowell Elementary School Plan for the Eclipse · Students in grades K-2 will not go outside to view the eclipse but will engage in interactive eclipse related activities. K-2 students will be able to view the eclipse via televised broadcast. · Students in grades 3-5 will be able to go outside to view the eclipse only with a signed permission form. Forms will go home on Friday August 11 and are due back on Thursday August 17. All students who return the permission form signed, will receive certified ISO eclipse shades for use during the eclipse viewing. Proper eyewear safety and precautions must be adhered to by students. Students who do not return the permission form by Thursday August 17 will remain inside and be able to view the eclipse via televised broadcast
